Course:

Short course description (general characteristics, features, advantages):

The course “Foreign Language (English)” will be useful for students of all specialities.

In modern society language education is an important component of professional training. The development of market relations between countries makes effective participation in professional communication necessary. Modern requirements for training qualified specialists demand that they be active participants in all globalisation processes, that is, productive participants in communication with the necessary communicative abilities in professional and situational communication, both oral and written. Thus, studying this course increases the mobility and competitiveness of future specialists on the labour market.

The course enables students to:

  • communicate effectively in a professional environment;
  • develop communicative competence and speaking skills in engineering;
  • understand and assess diverse international sociocultural issues in order to act appropriately in various professional communicative situations.

Aim and main objectives of the course:

Course aim: to develop students’ communicative competence and speaking skills in engineering.

The course is implemented through the following objectives:

  • Developing students’ cultural sensitivity and the ability to bring native and foreign cultures to a common denominator.
  • Strengthening students’ confidence as language users and their positive attitude to language learning.
  • Developing students’ professionally oriented communicative competences.
  • Developing students’ written communication skills and direct communication skills through combined channels (oral, written, audiovisual, paralinguistic and paratextual).

Competences provided:

After completing the course “Foreign Language (English)” students will be able to understand the key values of different corporate cultures in specific professional contexts and how they relate to each other; apply intercultural understanding in direct oral and written communication in academic and professional environments, and understand the rules of interaction between people in such situations.
